I keep thinking that if this were a forum, people would have been permabanned by now; +

Twitter manages to strike the perfect balance between open and closed to make this a shitshow for vulnerable troll-magnets
-
It's almost like someone set out to build something that would empower lazy narcissists.http://yesivebeenthere2.wordpress.com/2014/03/24/narcissists-sexists-racists-child-abusers-internet-trolls/ …

I swear, even 4chan is built to create less bullshit—at least within its own boundaries.
-
4chan has to feed on other, less ephemeral fora in order to stir shit up and make people miserable.
-
You mix ephemerality and anonymity, and you often get unpleasantness but the unpleasantness doesn't linger
-
Mix ephemerality, disconnectedness, and stable identities, and you get ever-lasting grudges filtered through a game of Telephone
-
I like Twitter because it's reminds me of a wilder, expansive form of IRC, which was always my favorite social medium.
-
I do want spontaneity and open-ness. I've met some amazing people on here. But I'm also so very tired.
-
If the best way to deal with a narcissist is to disengage and run away, I need a technology that can really truly let me do that.

@sarahjeong twitter could do the community standards thing with the cluster analysis machinery they use for who-to-follow -
@sarahjeong (making people only visible to others who are near them in the follow graph) -
@sarahjeong but that could hurt growth, so they're never going to do it -
@sarahjeong I've thought about making a client that did something like this, but twitter makes getting the follow graph as hard as possible -
.
@bobpoekert oh Twitter and third party development.... :(

@sarahjeong If it were a decentralized protocol there'd be separate customized clients too perhaps w/ more features to deal with bullshit :( -
@knowtheory@sarahjeong this is my dream. I know how to build it. It wouldn't even be hard. -
@mykola@sarahjeong So why don't we build it? -
@knowtheory look at diaspora, look at tent.io. I'm hoping@aral and his indie project can make it work. -
-
@knowtheory but you can't police someone else's servers. Ultimately it's up to Twitter, here. -
@mykola Not policing :) I'm talking about tracking & accounting for abuse. -
@knowtheory how? Bots with memories and pattern recognition? - 4 réponses de plus
