defcon talks i went to had me thinking a lot about how trusting the math is all well and good but people are usually the point of failure
given how money and payments are so integrally about people & their behavior, that tendency can't be ignored when it comes to cryptocurrency
It's like how the rhythm method is more effective than condoms when discounting user error. But, like...
@sarahjeong similarly, if we replace the world's cars with trucks, it'll suddenly be impossible for people to get into car accidents
@vogon idk security fuck-ups are pretty routine and certainly many of them are the result of gross negligence...
@vogon but I believe that the prevalence of security fuck-ups in the bitcoin universe is exacerbated how blockchain tech works
@vogon so it's not even like bitcoin people are bad at security, they're just fighting the basic architecture of an irreversible blockchain
@vogon idk to me it's a tech tragedy
@sarahjeong yeah it's such a waste of resources on trying to make something good that's doomed to irrelevance by design flaws
@sarahjeong the biggest tragedy imo is all of the hw investment in trying to eke out higher returns on a network with no stable equilibrium
@vogon tbf payments as they exist are dumb & bad but yeah all this money is going into a tech architecture that's not the right replacement
@sarahjeong @vogon glad to see our AdBlock detection was working in that screenshot!
@sarahjeong @vogon hey I don't blame ya :P
