@sarahjeong Not a defamation case, but there's a case going up to the Supreme Court about internet threats. Is that interesting to you? -
@bond_alexander yes, might do a writeup -
@sarahjeong Here's a Slate article about it: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2014/06/elonis_v_united_states_supreme_court_will_hear_the_facebook_speech_case.html … (TW: violence, rape) -

@voretaq7@bond_alexander I meant the judgment. -
@sarahjeong@bond_alexander ah - that's probably a "sending a message" amount. -
@voretaq7@bond_alexander yeah which, when excessive, is unconstitutional -
@sarahjeong@bond_alexander yeah, though the amount of "excess" required is a legal gray area. This one strikes me as a bit much too though. -
@voretaq7@bond_alexander the standard is hand-wavey but it exists. - 1 réponse de plus

@sarahjeong Or for that matter, any significant case won by the party with lesser resources? -
@sarahjeong Maybe when Scientology took on the IRS and won? -
@znmeb I'm.... not sure that counts -
@znmeb but I'm definitely going to cover some Scientology cases when I write this
