Publication agreements that require exclusive license to publisher, but affirm authors "retain copyright": Fraudulent, or just obnoxious?

@sarahjeong what if authors, relying on "retain copyright" part, have plans for $$$ that are scuttled by signing? Fraud-ish, at least. -
@CopyrightLibn I mean, lots of contracts will mess with someone without legal representation? Lots of fraud-ish law things -
@sarahjeong yeah, I know, basically. I just... Writing intentionally misleading contracts when you already have all the power is so dickish.
