@sarahjeong i agree with most of this. i think handup itself is nobly intended, but its existence highlights a shameful effect of the tech

@sarahjeong so handup can both be a thing that's not inherently bad but an indicator of a larger & much awfuller context in which it thrives

@sarahjeong Not seeing the problem with HandUp's structure yet, but understand the anger about the atmosphere that necessitated it.

@sarahjeong But in terms of the for-profitness & gatekeeping...in the "charity" world, this is COMPLETELY normal. Totally ordinary.

@sarahjeong Many won't donate to proven but small non-profits without big agency in-between & employees of that agency make WAY more $$.
