it looks to me primarily like a kind of streamlining service. it’s quintessential 2010s Silicon Valley service economy.

then there’s other elements that seem weird, but are really just signs of the times—

the TOS restrictions on use of their scrip, the signing away of IP publicity rights

Facebook’s users are the product, HandUp’s “helped” are the product

HandUp exists in a hole created by problematic municipal policies that have benefited tech. And I bet it’s helped people!

but it’s a bit like the tech industry sawed off your foot, and then turned around and made you a sandwich

well, sold you a sandwich

okay, they made you a smartphone app in order to connect you with other users looking to get rid of their excess sandwiches
