Seriously, look at an article (e.g. http://yalelawjournal.org/article/the-age-of-consent …) and then pick your jaw up from the floor. It's shockingly well-designed.
@grimmelm thats like… exactly how footnotes should work on the internet. How did they do that?!

@sarahjeong@grimmelm it's become a pretty trendy way to do footnotes elsewhere online. Makes more sense for this than anywhere, though. -

@sarahjeong@grimmelm oh you should've just asked https://wordpress.org/plugins/side-matter/ … -
@xor@sarahjeong You don't want to know how much time I wasted trying to get something like this using TeX. Overflows are the big problem. -
@grimmelm@sarahjeong I first saw this style in Grantland of all places; here's one explanation http://z4c.us/footnotes-a-la-grantland/ … -
@xor@sarahjeong Truncating at 100 characters makes the layout problem easier, but doesn't completely solve it if there are tons of notes. -
@grimmelm@sarahjeong I think the proper handling is to just keep stacking until you get some breathing room later? But opinions may differ. -
@xor@sarahjeong You don't want to let note numbers get too far from the notes themselves. So you need a threshold to cut off stacking. - 1 réponse de plus
