Y’all laugh at @jennschiffer’s trolly bitcoin piece, but in late 2012 - early 2013, that really was the level of anti-bitcoin discourse
-
-
In 2013 I read this “legal” analysis of bitcoin and it was garbage but I *had* to take it seriously bc there weren’t very many out there.
-
It was a grim time, with lots of internet experts unable to differentiate between the Federal Reserve and FinCEN.
-
I collected sources for my Bitcoin paper for months. In the last month, my bibliography exploded exponentially.
-
Now there are so many sources that I can’t keep up with them. For a while I had a near-exhaustive collection.
-
But pre-tipping point it was just a horrible time. Bunch of people who understood BTC who were optimistic to neutral. But the skeptics...
-
The skeptics were either insanely smart and had critiques beyond the average person’s comprehension, or insanely dumb
-
Now there’s a lot more nuanced writing out there, and we can laugh at things like https://medium.com/cool-code-pal/823e834c4aa3 … . Yay.
-
@sarahjeong the r/bitcoin reaction is great. "Satire of this form doesn't help the currency grow. People are already confused enough."
