omg RT @Liberationtech: California regulator seeks to shut down "learn to code" bootcamps http://venturebeat.com/2014/01/29/california-regulator-seeks-to-shut-down-learn-to-code-bootcamps/ …
I’m really grossed out by the targeting of Hackbright in particular. IDK. Whyyyyyy.

Sometimes regulation is warranted, but there’s so much punching down, and very little needed work — like, cable company trust-busting
-
Too afraid to google and find out whatever happened to the antitrust stuff with Monsanto

@sarahjeong because they're charging people $15,000 for education that's not subject to any sort of accrediting authority -
@vogon law schools are accredited but they’re churning out people who can’t get jobs. I think Hackbright is the lesser sin. -
@sarahjeong in practice, I'll grant you that, but they're a for-profit vocational school - -
@sarahjeong - and to hear BPPE tell it, they haven't made any attempt to pursue approval, and were they to, they would be allowed to operate -
@vogon yah, I guess it just feels like a low-justice-content state action -
@sarahjeong yeah, it always sucks when regulation throws good-faith actors and regulatory bodies into conflict -
@sarahjeong but imagine an alternate universe academy that ripped women off to the tune of several K and taught them no marketable skills -
@sarahjeong I'd rather have tense conversations and BPPE/Hackbright working something out than people who want to get up getting ripped off
