Been thinking lots about the intersection of technology and violence against women. Annoyed that technological aspects are often isolated...
...so we get into debates over internet, internet law, CDA 230, First Am, bla bla bla. Breaking CDA 230 is not a silver bullet for misogyny.

Everyone wants to consider the problems technology creates for women in isolation because the reality of patriarchy is scary.

Gender-based violence against women is real, and much more prevalent than you might think.

Rape is criminalized. Rape victims still in a bind. (Even if the state rape statute *isn't* archaic and terrible and victim-blaming.)

I don't mean to say this in a "Shit we can't do anything" way, I mean WE NEED TO FIX THIS, and *THIS* is way bigger than the internet.

Focus on the internet is a red herring. We need reform w/ restraining orders, a shift in prosecutorial priorities, police reeducation...

And just plain old cultural change. But I'm not saying we wait for it. We should coax it with laws and writing and art and maybe yelling too
