A final thought on #FifthEstate prompted by @andy_sellars's Tumblr post -- the movie is a kind of weird reverse propaganda.

So it turns into this "Look at this idea that could save the world, but it got derailed by a crazy person" story /"You should be Wikileaks!"
Not sure if this is bad, per se. Not, like, an honest piece of work to stand the test of time, but not a harmful piece of work either.

Fifth Estate as reverse propaganda is obvious to me because it omits the failure of Berg's later exploits.

If you take the "crazy white-haired Aussie" out of the equation, it doesn't automatically mean tyranny is over and the Fifth Estate lives

To omit the later history means attempting to cast the future as a clean slate, instead of, idk, taking a hard look at the personalities.

Overall, I thought it was very enjoyable. The actors seem to really reflect the tone and relative charisma of their characters.

And the photography was glossy and it created a 2010s neocyberpunk world without it being *too* overwrought.
