There are few controls for users to manage or report disinformation & fake, shady accounts that follow users. Yes, a user can always just "block" another user, but the platform has no interest in helping to manage bad actors or analyzing them.
The antitrust on Facebook/Instagram is pretty nonsense. There are Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube, not to mention Tiktok, all doing fantastically well. I don’t see a market segment as competitive as this one.
Also WeChat, telegram ,etc... when Facebook bought Instagram and WhatsApp people thought they were bonkers for the price they paid for both. Gotta love revisionists, also Instagram wasn't even top photo site when Facebook bought them.
Facebook's changes to begin reporting Monthly Active People (MAP) and Daily Active People (DAP) instead of segmented user counts by product, and the continued mashing together of its products means we'll never see this information. Makes it harder to break them up too.
Hasn’t FB disclosed IG is ~30% of all rev (gotta assume most is US?) Ad manager #’s show rough US MAUs, I believe IG is up from 110m to 130m between Jan ‘18 and July ‘20
