As someone who was also told by their family that I was 1/8 Native American (that also turned out to be false), I can assure you there are no benefits from the claim. This is just another Bernie prog hit.

There’s actually several advantages to one who can prove they are a certain percentage NA or has a tribe #. College scholarships, tuition breaks, etc. My family looked into it given my greatgrandmother is full blooded NA but couldn’t find a tribe #. Several benefits exist tho
