I think there's another reason for cringe: when a group or person is perceived to be acting above their station, that action will evoke it.
totally - I think that’s a major sub-class of the former (manipulate others to seem high-status)

I'd quibble with it a bit: sometimes it's poking fun at people more or less minding their own business (e.g. posts reposted outside a given community), but they definitely overlap.
