It seems clear from A Pattern Language that the environment or context with which "fit" is achieved (in form) is just people peopling.

There is not necessarily any ideal set of rituals. Good rituals will vary between groups. Rituals of the past aren't necessarily the best.

Solitary confinement causes severe suffering. Absence of group ritual may cause a continuum of lower-grade suffering.

Ritual can't eradicate bad mental states but maybe it can take some of the weight off, ease everyday anxiety and boredom of poor social fit.
