@sarahdoingthing The musical example has the failure mode of inheriting Pythagorean/equal temperament from general-purpose instruments.
@othercriteria I think children should have thumb pianos and gamalan instead of pianos and guitars but pianos and guitars are still good
@othercriteria there are many failure modes here, indeed - getting "stuck" in local optima - but alternative is chaos and ugliness I think
