My suggestion is that cops, while necessary, should be more like paramedics. You call them when you need them, thanks. No need for patrols.

@drethelin I don't see why that's such a radical idea. Problem: the role of cops is legalistically murky & civilian policing is stigmatized.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

@NineBandedBooks I feel like there are a lot of deterrence benefits psychologically to knowing you might be caught in the act1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

@drethelin Sure. But this doesn't mean gov't-santioned patrols. Also, cost/benefit analysis skewed by arbitrary enforcement of shitty laws.4 replies 1 retweet 2 likes -

@NineBandedBooks@drethelin i'm not sure it's quality of laws so much as scope/broadness of laws but i guess that is technically shitty too1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@cwage@drethelin I'm not suggesting anything so nuanced (as if it matters). Cops on call (like an ambulance); neighbors manage the rest.3 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

@NineBandedBooks@cwage@drethelin I'm imagining patrolling ambulances looking for medical symptoms, taking people in for rashes4 replies 0 retweets 4 likes -

@sarahdoingthing@NineBandedBooks@drethelin so distinction is purely compensatory/punitive vs. pro-active patrol? blurred lines tho1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
