@drethelin I once lived in a house heated only by a wood stove. I loved it. I despise forced air heat. Radiant is next best after a fire

@drethelin That's pretty cool! A nice workaround if you can't go full floor radiant.

@drethelin My grandmother's lake house had those antique gas space heaters. I loved sitting in front of them as a child. So cozy.

@FormerDeminTX @drethelin When I was little we only had a wood stove for everything (even cooking), happy nostalgia for me - log cabins!

@sarahdoingthing @FormerDeminTX Me and roommate were recently bitching about a mutual friends' outdoor upbringing that led her to disdain AC

@drethelin @sarahdoingthing I grew up with no AC, but would be tough now. My sisters and I put our beds in front of the windows in summer.

@FormerDeminTX my dad built our house right into the mountain side so it stayed cool in summer - no AC requires better design

@sarahdoingthing A lot of it is climate, too. There is a reason Carolina Lowcountry houses were up on pilings and had deep eaves.

@sarahdoingthing Our childhoods influence us. Nothing says "home" to me like the sort of houses in this book: http://www.amazon.com/Coming-Home-Southern-Vernacular-House/dp/0847838269/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410489961&sr=8-1&keywords=southern+vernacular+house …

@FormerDeminTX "architecture of the imagination" - the idea that no house we live in can be perfect because we need a future ideal space

@FormerDeminTX (to imagine ourselves into - we live not just in the present architecture but past and future too!)
