@sarahdoingthing I like how this is somewhat opposed to the evidence that more comprehensive lighting lowers crime outdoors
@drethelin lots of his delicate patterns are destroyed by broken cities/crime - sleeping outside is the one that comes to mind
@sarahdoingthing Curious if any of the "new urbanism" ideas correct these patterns, or is it the same, but now with moar hipster packaging.
@FormerDeminTX Alexander himself gets more pwned by the Cathedral over time - in '64 he happily designs a caste-segregating village in India
@sarahdoingthing I was reading this last week, which makes argument for human scaled cities. Lovely photos. http://www.andrewalexanderprice.com/blog20131204.php#.U9SLMBa_v0C …
@FormerDeminTX YES - he deeply gets it! love that photo essay
@sarahdoingthing My older sister came to live w us after lost hubs. A return to the family tradition that they stay *in family*, not alone.
@FormerDeminTX A Pattern Language has a lot of time for extended families living connected - gradients of connection & separation
@sarahdoingthing Anyway, deciding on collection of smaller cottages - link to large central public hall? Batting around ideas.
@FormerDeminTX this is my dream plan - lots of little cottage houses around a central square/saunas/water thing
@sarahdoingthing I'll have to get the Patterns book. Not building a city, but a sort of "family compound" can use same ideas.
@FormerDeminTX he's talking to every scale - even within-room scale. beautiful! I'm jealous
