Ritual doesn't arise as a result of belief. Ritual precedes belief and makes belief possible.

Some beliefs are organized into belief systems and some are organized into theories. What if belief-system beliefs come from peer pressure and self-consistency pressure following community participation, while theory beliefs follow from evidence and plausibility?

Like belief in God comes from your church, but figuring out whether God will allow you to eat this particular food item today comes from reasoning what preferences he probably has based on his past behavior and the signs he is presenting to you.
