I can finally share this longread about why treatments for low sexual desire in women are still mostly not very good, and what the best options are (hint: mindfulness). Big thanks to megastars , and others for the fascinating #sexscience!

Generation X and older millennials are perhaps the first cohort of women in North America who were steeped, from puberty onward, in a culture that allowed women to be entitled to, and vocal about, their sexualities. thewalrus.ca/what-women-sti #WomensHealth

These outcomes are sadly not unexpected. This is what was tragically predicated.

This is one of the most devastatingβ€”and importantβ€”articles I have ever read: A @CAKitchener report about how Florida's 15-week abortion ban brutally tortured two friends, one to the brink of death. It is difficult to get through. But I urge you to read it. wapo.st/3o2wY7r

Over the course of the day, according to medical records, Cook would lose roughly half the blood in her body.

She had intended to deliver the fetus in a hospital, a doctor by her side. When her water broke the night before β€” at least six weeks ahead of when a fetus could survive on its own β€” she drove straight to the emergency room, where she said the doctor explained that she was experiencing pre-viability preterm prelabor rupture of the membranes (PPROM), which occurs in less than 1 percent of pregnancies. The condition can cause significant complications, including infection and hemorrhage, that can threaten the health or life of the mother, according to multiple studies.

At the hospital in Coral Springs, Fla., Cook received antibiotics, records show. Then she was sent home to wait.

NEW and exclusive: A Toronto police officer allegedly failed to investigate a woman’s β€œrepeated pleas” for help about an ex-boyfriend threatening her, dismissing the case as a "he said, she said." Three days later, she was murdered, allegedly by her ex.

I’ve had two unmedicated births. Sorry to break it to you, but they’re painful. There is nothing inherently β€œorganic” about it. I sure as hell didn’t choose it bc an influencer said I β€œshould.” It was just something I wanted to do. Having drugs as a choice is awesome.

everything about birthing culture is wrong. babies should be had at home in beds and baths, not fluorescent hospital rooms. the process should be organic, unmediated by chemical or surgical help and unassociated with the dread and pain it often is today.

Biological sex is a non-binary spectrum, just like gender 🌈✨ Bodies are cool.

In 2014, a 70 year old cis man who had fathered four children went to hospital in Kashmir with an inguinal hernia. Everything about him and his life had so far been ordinary - except that the hernia turned out to be his uterus with an ovarian tube and broad ligament.

It’s possible to grasp that having an affair with an employee when you’re the most powerful figure in the city is absolutely enough to merit resignation AND to suspect that there may be other shitty details and factors we’re unaware of, political or otherwise

Congrats on a great run. One of Canada’s best magazines has been headed by a woman for one-quarter of its existence. Looking forward to your next move,

Friday was my last day as editor-in-chief of @thewalrus. I’ve had so many happy memories there and it’s hard to say goodbye. But five years is a long time in the life of a magazine editor, and I’ve had a really good run. 1/7

Avg. rent in the city is 2500/month, which is 30K/year. Avg. CUPE Ed worker salary is 39K/year. Remember who to be mad at if schools are closed due to a strike: blame falls squarely on the man denying early childhood educators and custodians the right to basic decent living.

An historic move to improve the understanding of consent in Ontario. πŸ’ͺ🏻
Quote Tweet
Recent Ontario events have led to a heightened awareness of the need to address sexual violence & consent. Only 28% of Canadians fully understand the meaning of consent. Today I tabled my first Private Members Bill to address this problem β€” #ConsentAwarenessWeek Act. #Onpoli 🧡

Shortly after Michael Melling became head of CTV News, he raised questions about host Lisa LaFlamme’s hair. According to a senior CTV official who was present at the meeting, Mr. Melling asked who had approved the decision to β€œlet Lisa’s hair go grey.”

Scientists are doing a pretty good job of explaining these images. I now need a team of philosophers, rabbis and witches to explain what it means for how we should live our lives

Stories like these are brave and breathtaking AND it’s horrifying that we’re in a place where people have to bare their trauma to justify basic medical care

Pro-lifers don't like complexity. At 17 weeks my placenta detached and he was much too small. I thought I felt my baby's frantic attempts to breathe. My OBGYN advised me to terminate the pregnancy, there wasn't much time. But I couldn't.
