By "lonely" I don't mean I was the only person with this insight! Rather, I'm the rare journalist with a national platform who comes from and still lives among the group (rural white working class) on which coastal media outlets problematically fixated to explain Trump's rise. 5/

That racism is rife among all classes of whites is hardly news to BIPOC folks. I'm a white person who writes about class; I used that vantage to beat this drum for years, challenging white media gatekeepers whose classism meant Trumpers in their own ranks didn't get reported on.
