People will literally send you graphic images in your DMs just to get you to boost a GFM. I recognize that people need help, but this unloading is also a form of violence, like what is not clicking ???

Y’all very much so treat especially Black women with large platforms like shit. I see it in the way people treat @/sheisresting like she’s not a person with her own feelings and struggles.

I’m actually very angry at how dismissive y’all are being to hypervisible marginalized people, when they are expressing their boundaries. And just passing it off as them being “too good to help anyone”

Like I’m not going to be like “fuck off and go to a therapist” but if you’re not going to approach the person you’re reaching out to for help with care, then don’t.

I also recognize that the way we interact with each other online when it comes to asking for help is a reflection of state apparatus. The “benevolent gaze” describes how marginalized people always have to “prove” & they r in need and perform trauma to receive help from the state

The “benevolent gaze” is rampant on twitter where there is an inherent distrust of especially black women’s struggles. But performing your trauma in people’s DMs doesn’t lead to proper care, but instead invites vouyerism and spectatorship.

The benevolent gaze is a component of surveillance. You can read more about it here:https://drive.google.com/file/d/126jYWuLokFW1BmQMWxG5oXXLMVI9l0KQ/view …

wow. last night i was thinking abt how people recreating their trauma in our mentions/dms a lot was a form of violence and i was thinking this a lot in terms of how people treat you. our minds.

specifically in how people will ask u to act like an attack dog, which in turn exposes you to reactionary violence while the person that asked gets off without being in the middle of the fight/hate.
