As long we live in a capitalist society, if you can’t afford to pay your workers a living wage you can’t afford to own your business. But we know this is often ultimately a lie to keep the pockets of higher ups safely and generously lined.

As a suicide survivor, I just want to tell those feeling the despair of depression that being alive is worth it. There is no permanent nirvana of happiness at the end of the tunnel, but with the right resources, you will be able to eventually find the good days worth living for.

Berkeley, a city with ~800 unsheltered homeless, has one emergency warming shelter, with 80 cots. It doesn't serve meals, doesn't allow kids, and kicks everyone out at 6:30am, even during storms so bad Caltrans is begging people to stay off the streets.
