There is a hidden class issue with this, too. I couldn’t afford to tip well for most of my life and now I leave like 10 bucks for a cheeseburger and fries.

After over 10 years in the service industry in New York City, yes it is a such a class issue and one that’s not talked about enough. It’s also a gender issue (not saying men aren’t tipped bad) but as a woman the antics I often endured serving was tantamount to abuse.
