When I was 25 and new to the industry I wasn’t allowed to join all the suits for a meeting during a conference I was speaking at since the meeting was taking place at a strip club.
Games and tech has always felt like a boys club/fraternity house. I hope it grows up someday.
Toxic management will cause you to doubt yourself for a very long time. Luckily I’m seeing progress in myself, even if I’m not fully recovered. 1,5 years later I’ve shipped a game, now work with an amazing team & am a Next Gen Leader in the games industry. YOU DID NOT BREAK ME.
And don’t get me started on the official industry events that hired naked models to walk around for all the suits to take selfies with.
I didn’t drink alcohol much when starting in games but boy did I start after.
Hello I’m Sara and have been working in games for 10 years. I’ve mostly worked with design, programming and community management, and have also released my own game! Today I’m a Game Designer for
6 months ago I started what is probably what I would consider my dream job. It even beats being a solo indie dev because I get to work with a fantastic and supportive team <3 it took me over 7 years in the industry to find my way here, and I’m so glad I finally did <3
At my first GDC I was demo:in our tech at one of our partner booths (we were building a 3D graphics engine for web using WebGL) and had my time wasted by dudes stopping by seeming interested in our tools but in the end just blatantly asking me out on dates.
Y’all the reason I’m sharing these experiences is to call out problematic behavior we have in this industry. Women are getting DRUGGED at industry events. This is why we need a safe and inclusive environment, so that we can continue our work without worrying about our safety.
I’m Sara and am on my 10th year working in the games industry! I’m a Technical Designer at Embark, and previously worked at companies such as Mojang and Unity. Most importantly, I’ve released my own game as an indie dev! #WhatAGameDevLooksLike
I also attended an industry party that had hired little persons and put them in bikinis and painted them in gold body paint as part of the entertainment. How do organizers even come up with these ideas to begin with?
Sick and tired of the unprofessional messages from men on LinkedIn like this when I post one photo of myself celebrating a CAREER ACHIEVEMENT. @SamsungUS come get ur mans #everydaysexism#TimesUp
I can rarely tell if someone is flirting with me, so I can easily go on for 20 minutes excitedly talking about MY WORK since I assume thats what others professionals stopping by my booth are there to talk about. Not to ask me out on dates?!?!
I used Unity, PS+Krita & Garageband to create Trollskogen completely on my own. I'm a self-taught game dev using online learning resources & the knowledge base created by the community. This is the result: https://itunes.apple.com/app/trollskogen/id1438097222…
I believe you can make games, too. #madewithunity
It's #NationalVideoGamesDay and I love Minecraft! It's truly one of my favourite games, and I am so happy I got to work with it, my amazing colleagues and Marketplace partners <3 I've left Mojang and will soon go on a new adventure. But first, vacation with my doggies!!
My health (physical & mental) hasn’t felt this good in a long time. Blood sugar levels are excellent, I’m active outside daily, eat great, no coffee, no stress, no anxiety. I’m feeling hella empowered everyday. So thankful for this program <3
This month took a very sudden turn work-wise (as it’s done for many people). It’s been very stressful and I broke down this morning from the most mundane things. I’ve decided to make this month only about everything that’s comforting such as tea, blankets, films, food, etc.
Community Managers are such an important part of game development. How else will various teams know what to change in a project without feedback and reactions from current or potential users? We are making games for PEOPLE, and CM's are the glue between product and the PEOPLE. https://twitter.com/Daley_Kong/status/1096157132934823936…
Survived the first week of my breakup. At first I was counting each day that I would get through, now I can start counting weeks. Three more and it will be a month. I took a long walk in the rain yesterday, finding new happy places.
CW: weight.
Me then at 53kg feeling super insecure about my body and thinking I was fat.
vs me now at 73kg and being at a point where I can’t care anymore. Also comfy clothes are underestimated AF!

This weekend I’m consuming 2 jars of eggless mayo, half a kg oat creme fraiche, 1 kg of bread, two jars of seaweed caviars, one tube of vegiar, half a kg smoked tofu, oat cream cheese, smoked seitan, roast peaf, and coconut cheeze. Look at my masterpiece:
I spent most of my evening in a jacuzzi with friends and mainly taking breaks to eat pizza. I’ve found my ultimate favourite way to party. It feels like I’ve been to a spa all night. Best. Ever.
I'm making a game in Minecraft based on the spoon theory. Instead of the default "survive your first night" challenge, players will have to survive the day with their allocated spoons. Every action costs 1 spoon & sleeping gives you a set nr of new spoons. Spoon management.
I can’t believe 1/5 of the people voting don’t want me and my family in Sweden.
Not to speak of all my friends and their families that will be affected.
This election is heart breaking.
When I became president of the student chapter at uni, peers told me I was too anal and boring for the role.
Bish who’s now working in games and has two dogs you or me? That’s right who’s boring now
Thanks everyone for the congratulations, downloads and heart warming messages about Trollskogen <3 It feels so nice to have released my little darling out to the world 🌲✨ If you haven’t checked out the game yet, grab it here: https://itunes.apple.com/app/trollskogen/id1438097222…#screenshotsaturday
My mom watched my talk yesterday and was so happy because she finally understands what I do. The talk was in Swedish and although she’s watched most of my industry talks over the last 10 years, they have all been in English.
This made me:
It’s been nearly 10 years since I was a student at KTH, and today I’m doing a presentation for some of the current students there! Hoping to inspire them to get into game dev 🖤
Very excited to announce the teams that are going to be creating magic this summer at Stugan! There is going to be 21 Stuganeers working on 15 different games. You can see the full list here: http://stugan.com/stuganeers-2018
When I went from WFH to office job a few years ago I was panicking over how I would fit in my 5 days/week training schedule. Who knew I’d later be able to do a whole year (and I guess counting) of 0 training.
One day I will be reunited with the walls and ceilings 💪
Omw to the liquor store to buy a bottle of cava to put in the fridge because tonight I am celebrating life! I also love my dog. He weighs as much as this bag of potatoes 😂
Fun fact: in Sweden you have to OPT OUT of paying the church a portion of your taxes. This is done through mailing a PHYSICAL LETTER to opt out of giving the church your money, and it takes a couple of years until the process is finished.
This game simulates Type 1 Diabetes in Minecraft, teaching the interaction of blood glucose, insulin, and carbs. This is amazing <3 <3 https://mct1.io#minecraft#diabetes#t1d
