If you think the country is polarized now, remember that in ‘68-‘69 there were 700 domestic bombings. https://politi.co/2rEUMOd  via @politicomag

There's as much money in "fighting terrorism", as in running our failed Drug War that started in 1970 & has made drugs cheaper and more easily available. Not to mention the bribes paid by contractors to govt functionaries and the bribes paid to politicians and law enforcement

I haven't forgotten. The hippies at the college across from our grade school would call bomb threats on us to watch us stand on the playground in the rain. Polarized is two sides attacking each other. The left were terrorists & their antifa grandkids are too

I laugh when people say that university campuses today are overrun by “radical leftists”, being old enough to remember when there was a robust Marxist-Leninist presence on campus.

While this is a good thing, I think there might be some errors in this assumption... do we measure this by the willingness/ability of a side to commit terrorism? Could there be just as much polarization with just a less physically destructive strategy for expressing it?

Wait, really? (my knowledge of American history from the 1950's onward is pretty shaky; didn't have huge coverage in school, and it's something I haven't gotten around to fixing yet)

The radicals have power in the political sphere and its cultural variants but over the past few years the good, responsible people have gotten skilled at opting out of the mess. The key, we've learned, is not to give the bad guys any power over us or our thoughts. #DragonEnergy

Polarization in America has been about how the culturally dominant took hold of the legacy institutions (the media, Hollywood, publishing, and the Academy) and then, drunk on power, turned authoritarian, prompting normal people to fight back.

That fight between normal people and the once culturally dominant has already passed its zenith. The cultural elite, galled that normies fought back, lashed out in a series of mass hysterias that, oddly enough, have weakened their position tremendously.

And now, in 2018, with the emergence of the IDW, with Kanye's #DragonEnergy, with widespread abandonment of the legacy media already accomplished and abandonment of the academy now underway, the worst of this highly polar era is already behind us.

The once culturally elite will continue to lash out (the Dems will nominate a Hugo Chavez style authoritarian populist in 2020) but they have been so neutered that it no longer matters. #DragonEnergy, in large part, is about getting to ignore them because we've taken their power.
