Weird! Can’t smack a naughty child, but these same gov’ts accommodate & condone pedophilia! Child sex slavery, torture, satanic murders! Very, very, weird! Disgusting actually! Talk about phoney virtue signaling!
-
It’s the phony signaling that keeps the airwaves & papers & watercooler chatter to a minimum if at all. When there is fire over here.. they bomb somewhere else to distract from the truly deep deep issue of evil and sinister abstracts of human nature. The dark dark om nom nom types

Been quite interesting (& not in the best of ways) to watch people continue to full on debate you on aggregate progress, & ignore these datasets

Yes, but parents can't just be left in the dark about using positive and negative reinforcers to help discipline their children i.e. they need to know how to apply the alternatives to smacking.

I think I understand more where I have some disagreement with you on this subject. Statistically you are absolutely sound, however, I feel as though relativity is a missed concept. I believe the current generation is so appalled with bad behaviour that things like this, while 1/2

Good in the general sense, are indicative of a very low initial bar. So violence can be in decline, but that's simply not good enough for just world. Ken Dryden made the point on
@cbcideas w/you about shifting norms ala the drunken character in movies. 2/2

The first paragraph is so powerful. “Well, it never did me any harm” means you don't see hitting kids as something bad to be avoided. Normalization of interpersonal violence is harmful. So yes, you were indeed harmed if receiving such punishment means you don't object to it now.
-
It is sometimes necessary. E.g. my brother hammered nails into my parents' car tires as "revenge" for time-out and the tires burst. Would have killed my parents if they had burst on the freeway instead of a city street. Spanking can save lives.
-
One anecdote isn't a very strong argument for making something 'necessary' or even recommended, and a more complete parenting toolbox would be a good idea.
-
The data on how spanking is generally harmful is good, but the anecdote is enough to say why it shouldn't be illegal to spank your child.
-
you nailed it - it's very often difficult to accept (and act on) data over anecdotal felt experience - it's pretty much a software bug - but just recognizing this challenge is itself a great step
