Here's my own anecdotal impression...is there data?pic.twitter.com/07IY2Lfq77

Citizens SAY they want honest politicians, but it's pretty clear they're lying. Citizens' voting preferences reveal they actually prefer liars. Lying is one thing. Self-deception is probably worse.https://twitter.com/EricRWeinstein/status/992048961564196864 …

There was a mysterious structural blow to markets around ‘70. Our problems largely stem from the Boomer response which was to hide the wound untreated for decades to live out life in a style above that to which their parents had become accustomed. And the end of that is our now.

As @robinhanson has been pointing out recently and as others have suggested for decades, it just seems to be the case that we aren't wired to understand what we actually want at a conscious level. What we SAY we want is just so very often a or the socially-prevailing narrative.

👍 Couldn't have said it better. I myself find it a bit disorienting & nauseating when confronted with realizations like this, that we human's aren't nearly so noble & rational as we fancy ourselves. Quite a disappointment to understand we remain ignorance burdened beasts.

Nevertheless, there is still some satisfaction in becoming conscious of the disappointing beastly truth. Probably also useful to gain perspective in order to be more patient & forgiving for our shortcomings.

Yes! Also, it's very possible to become more conscious of your actual motives with help. Take seriously OTHERS appraisals of your motives, look at your PATTERNS of BEHAVIOR over time. It's a humbling experience, but it's entirely possible to see yourself more clearly this way.

Even in the election there were a few options on the ballot. Clinton was the most competent, experienced and least likely to harm the country.

I'm honestly tired of dealing with this dishonest bullshit narrative. Your vote only mattered with two people. That's our two party system. And I thought Trump was less corrupt. End of story.
