You Know Who's Really Addicted to Their Phones? Boomers & Gen-Xers (not the ever-maligned Millennials). It's because the middle-aged have the most social obligations (others depending on them). https://www.wired.com/story/gen-x-adhd-screen-addiction/?mbid=social_twitter_onsiteshare … via @WIRED

I'm calling BS on this one. using a device out of a sense of obligation to others hardly seems like an addiction. teenagers look at worthless crap all day because they're bored, and taking away phones is now a universal form of punishment because it's so painful for them

Oh good, somebody remembers Gen-X, the neglected middle child squeezed between the Boomers and the Millennials. From a casual reading of the mainstream media, one might think that birth rates plummeted to zero between 1965 and 1982.

You don't think it's because most millennial are "digital natives" and thus have social practices built into the mediums they're using along w/ proper conditioning versus "olds" who have decades of programming bootstrapped to a nascent medium?

In just a few months I've become completely addicted to my (first) #iPhoneX. Before I had never enough time to continue #reading (job, household, grandkids, too tired...) but now I can read anywhere, anytime (even in the dark ;) a few pages. Heaven!

My knee-jerk reaction is to suspect this is because top-down attentional control ability declines with age such that older people are more prone to behavioral additions.

The Olds know who they are by checking whether they think “Oldsmobile” when they hear “the Olds.” Bet they don’t walk into walls while texting as often as the Youngs.

They're also the most gullible spreading fake news (sometimes obviously so) in family and neighborhood groups. Down with the oldies!
