I submit that every child who dies because their parents and pastors prayed over their sick bodies instead of seeking medical attention is a human sacrifice.

In Britain they still sacrifice children to the Gods of socialized healthcare
-
While in America they sacrifice many to the gods of privatized medicine.
-
In America the state doesn't prohibit parents from seeking alternative treatment and force children to die
-
They don't do that in the UK either. The government not paying for a treatment that won't be effective isn't the same thing as prohibiting it. And it's not like the private insurance companies in the U.S. would pay for such a treatment either.
-
The UK government used the police to prevent Alfie from traveling to Italy to receive treatment paid for by his family.

Stunned by the reactance to this plain observation. These comments perfectly summarize ch. 4 of "Enlightenment Now" on
#Progressophobia. When evidence of the cruel prejudices we have overcome is overwhelming, critics turn to semantics: isn't healthcare a form of child sacrifice?pic.twitter.com/LpsQNS8J2r

The Roman gladiatorial games were human sacrifice. So is modern capital punishment.
-
What kind of sacrifice is made in the act of capitol punishment?
-
A human life.
-
Would you be referring to the life of the one punished by the state or the innocent life that criminal may have taken away?

Have you read Rene Girard, on the fundamental role scapegoat violence has played in the foundation of political order? I recommend "Violence & the Sacred" as a starting point.

Politicians are sacrificing life on earth for short term political gain. Worse than anything in history.

Considering Gray's critique of Better Angels, I don't think it would be very interesting. Gray doesn't have a very good mind.

That's not what I mean. I'm not a Pinker acolyte. I do think it's possible to critique Pinker in a useful way. Unfortunately, there's something about Pinker's work that seems to attract people energetically opposed to him who don't seem to understand him, like Gray and Taleb.
