The fact that a country calls itself a democracy doesn't mean it's one. If the will of the people isn't reflected in the decisions of the government; it's not a democracy.

Interesting follow-up question: figure out measurable proxy for "extent to which will of the ppl reflected in govt"

When Europe crowns almost all fell in the gutter of history, it totalitarian that first filled the void. We should be very careful about proclaiming that everything is fine. That usually when the shit it the proverbial fan.

This is old data. Hungary just finished the process of democratic deconsolidation, a previously theoretical process. It doesn't differentiate between liberal and illiberal democracies. It doesn't mention the increasing authoritarianism /democratic apathy of western citizenry.

*These*. *These* are old data, you nincompoop.

This is a collection of old data. But thank you for insulting me, rather than the points I raised in good faith.

My correction referred to the phrasing of your earlier tweet, not the phrasing of the tweet you would later respond to that correction with.
-
It wasn't a correction, I was indicating what I meant. I'm having a bad day, so if you have nothing but self aggrandising condescension, please go away.

Perhaps our outrage at corrupt and opaque govt. and corp. behaviour is evidence that we're pushing for more democracy (public transparency & accountability)?

Democracy is not dead. Democracy, is as always under the threat of being used to pervert its own structures to distort the intent of these institutions. We see it in Turkey, Hungary, Poland, Singapore, Malaysia, and US. An institutional and media centric war of information is on.

Polity IV now rates the U.S. as an 8 (no longer a 10) on its scale, starting just recently. Even they are caught up with the pessimism nonsense.
