There's a number of examples of 'constructive' Gen Z types, however parkland activists certainly aren't in that category.

Good point - there is always intergenerational envy and criticism. It is frequently taken at the literal rather than the rhetorical level. In an ideal world younger generations are supported an not attacked. At the bare minimum people are people. I remember the 1970s very well.

These kids are radical ideologues who don't want to debate but think their demands should be met unchallenged. It is intellectually dishonest, and should scare the crap out of you anyone is taking them this seriously.

No. Today's teenagers will rule the world in 40 years time and will do a far better job of it than most of our leaders have. Betcha.

-
It’s definitely a bet, and I’m sure the teens of today will win

What dishonesty. Pinker is dismissing the fact the Parkland students behave exactly like the students at colleges, bullying people who disagree with them into silence and demanding adherence to demands. He ignores it because he agrees with them this time.https://twitter.com/sapinker/status/980452848508039169 …

I think it is vindictive and spiteful to attempt to end someone's career simply because they hurt your feelings. Adults need to be very careful how far they are complicit in their actions. Like all children, they need adults to set their boundaries

I remain skeptical. I would be hard pressed to call demagoguery "sensible" or "constructive." In the article, these protestors are labeled as "poised", but I'm confused how one can be "balanced" (Merriam-Webster) while smearing an entire group of people as "child murderers"?
-
Yeah. You’re right. They’re not always poised. Their rhetoric is sometimes emotional and even insulting. They are not always completely reasonable. What they are is scared kids. Have a heart.
-
That sentiment is the exact reason the left is using these kids as a microphone. They are the political equivalent of human shields. I have a heart, but if kids want to tell adults who are more educated, w/more life experience how to live, they should expect scrutiny/criticism.

Absolutely, perspective is generational and every older generation always thumbs their nose at the latest generation.

They are so f-in smart. Much more than I was at their age. And that gives me hope for humanity in the face of unprecedented idiocy.
