What is thinking? do humans think? or are we just machines ourselves? our brains just taking in environmental stimuli and creating nice little neural networks - ever consider that rather than having independent thought - we are just a function

I just meant that Pinker is a preeminent cognitive psychologist who has no doubt "ever considered" the functioning of the human mind. His second book "How the Mind Works" would, it seems to me, be of intense interest to you.

I regard him more of a linguist - I don't mean that in a bad way - Chomsky is a real hero and I know the works of Pinker well - I am more into how the mind actually works so a I tend to regard it a bit more like Penrose - how memory works is my real area

He's not a linguist though, he's a cognitive psychologist who focuses on language at times. Big difference.

Cognitive psychology is a pretty broad term - his area of expertise is language - specifically the use of verbs - which I find interesting - I think he is swayed by cultural recognition evidence - I prefer Chomsky in that respect - however I enjoy his papers as light reading

Machines don't really "think". They follow algorithms programed by people. When they are finished with the algorithm they stop.

Love your work but the args you make in your contrib are easy to refute. Eg: We don't need the AI to remove safeguards, just a bad human.

So if a bad human does bad things, we call that hacking.

Machine learning isn't thinking. Not even close. AI is a Hollywood fantasy.
