But see also these data:https://www.cato.org/survey-reports/state-free-speech-tolerance-america …

i thought this is good news, until one scan the article. It seems, free speech for liberal view is rising, actually. Such as on gay and atheism. While free speech for other topics, remain flat or went down (for the latter, e.g. racism, whatever that may actually mean.).

I think the devil is in the details here ie) The specific measurement of what people consider as "Racist". As we've seen the definition has ballooned. I find this data very hard to believe and frankly don't trust Vox's spin considering there highly biased agenda.
-
That's what I was thinking. Racist now is Sam Harris according to the left. Studying genetic differences is called racist and just another type eugenics.

Average attitudes of the many aren't the problem, it's extreme behaviors of the few.

This could pertain to Millennials and not today's college students specifically, but Pew reported in 2015 that 40% of U.S. Millennials said that the Government should be able to prevent "statements that are offensive to minority groups." More than elders.http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/11/20/40-of-millennials-ok-with-limiting-speech-offensive-to-minorities/ …

Free speech should guarantee a villain's right to speak, not a hero's. The only obvious villain here is the racist (declininig freedom). Ask about a homophobe, a nazi, a mass-murderer. This research reflects how we view these examples as villains, not a commentary on free speech.
-
I have seen you make this argument a lot recently. Can you direct me to some good articles on declining free speech?

The work done by
@JonHaidt,@jordanbpeterson,@benshapiro,@CHSommers...even work done by@sapinker in EN. Lindsay Shepherd, the law suits against Google, the reason/work @ Heterodox Academy.@Lauren_Southern in the UK. As long as you walk around with eyes open, the whole world. -
Lol. Nice slight at the end. I think a lot of those folks are hyperventilating about a small dataset or run straight up outrage monetization strategies.
-
The question insinuates that there isn't an abundance of evidence, which is a slight. We can discuss cases in the evidence (this Vox trash) but it's ridiculous to think that the prevalence of campus riots/legislation like Bill C16 are monetizing efforts by right wing speakers.
-
I am asking for a good write up that makes that argument. Campus riots are incredibly localized and not really illustrative of a dark moment in history.
-
The issues on campuses are neither few nor localized depending on your sources of news. You can look up the FIRE data or check out heterodox academy for a lot more evidence.
@JonHaidt has a book coming out hopefully next year too. -
What’s the FIRE data? Clearly my news source isn’t covering the wide spread riots. Pop me an article on this stuff the next time it comes up. We are in totally different bubbles of information so I am legit asking for you to share the links when it comes up.
