Very few people mention that the language these students have developed (safe spaces, trigger warnings, etc) is not the language of "revolutionaries" -- it is the language of little bureaucrats.

is this a real threat? vs...multiple states propose legalizing the right to run over protestors, WI outlawing any protest (even silent) to on-campus speakers, Trump asking to persecute NFL players for protesting. students don't *pen laws* canceling amendment 1 do they, Steven?

Maybe, like the silly old Nature/Nurture question, society's ills are not best solved by approaching them as either/or dilemmas between Mistake Theory and Conflict Theory. Maybe they are best understood as an inevitable mix of both.../2

Opposition to stem cell research itself stems from a mistake, in the form of scientific ignorance, but manifests itself as a conflict when ignorant lawmakers have the power to prevent progress: mistake and conflict, hand in hand.../3

While conflict vs mistake theorist discussions are intellectually interesting, it’s worth wondering why Pinker keeps trying to cast students shutting down speakers as a larger problem than it is. This thread seems explain why: https://twitter.com/drvox/status/972915124032888832?s=21 …

ochlocratic student protests do educate, but to validate & change society - they must allow all members of society a vote. Democracy is messy, but remains the most potent source of progress. Educate & vote.
