How do you prepare for a flu strain that will be different every year? One mutation can render next years flu immune to any vaccine. I don't know that a universal vaccine is possible.

You reacted reasonably, by saying the flu vaccine will always be a challenge. Most people do agree, but the news is about someone promoting research on a super-vaccine and who steals headlines. These news stories always outnumber the ~ zero news articles about rational thinkers.

So many presenting radically new unique approaches frequently tend to drown out voices of the majority with more measured and logical approaches to shared problems. The latter are called in some circles a silent majority for the reason they are being ignored in the media.
-
How the hell did you stumble upon my one random comment about the Flu? I agree with what you said and the cliche "if it bleeds it leads" sums it up rather well. The media shuns complications and nuisance because they know their audience.

This is why I’m not impressed by multi-billions wasted on this escapism about colonising space; use all those billions on pandemic research & protection instead. Now. Space dreams are for cowards & quitters. :-)
