Oh good, another white male biologist denigrating intellectual disciplines and political movements he hasn’t bothered to study.

Roban, why do you think Steven Pinker hasn't studied them?
-
From reading his shallow critiques of identify politics and the humanities here and in his Chronicle of Higher Ed piece. It’s true, I don’t know he hasn’t studied, that’s just the most generous interpretation.
-
A little humility is called for when criticizing whole fields of study. If you come from outside and find examples of what looks like bad work, I guarantee that either people within the field have already made your point better than you can or you’re misunderstanding the work.

There are models - scientific models - that show how inequality and oppression gets institutionalized in systems. There are feedback loops that persist initial conditions. There is decades of research validating many of these. This is science.
-
The particular institutionalized biases and inequalities vary over different kinds. The structures that affect African Americans include prison sentencing inequalities and parental absence heavily. Women face barriers to resume selection and hiring. Again, research is thick.
-
We know many solutions to these problems, but they are not color-blind or bias-blind. They cannot be because neutral efforts by definition do not resolve the institutional oppressions - the feedback loops of initial conditions. Those only maintain status quo.
-
Restorative justice requires a scientific evaluation of health metrics and a plan to alleviate the individual feedback loops faced by various abused groups. We must protect against each abuse. This is what you call identity politics.
-
Your stand is how I know you are lost. You are taking an anti-scientific stand here in support of the inequalities fueling the rising white nationalism. You’ve chosen the side of fact avoidance. You show no indication of being familiar with the literature.

"Identity politics" is a response to the original identity politics - the dominance of white men over socio-political-economic systems & the related exclusionary practices. Pinker supports evolutionary psychology, created to justify white male dominance as the natural order.

Pinker on identity politics: “I refuse to that people are systematically treated differently in the United States based on inherent aspects of their character or their bodies, despite over 200 years of evidence to the contrary.”

Apparently you identify with people with deficiencies in their reading comprehension.

Apparently Pinker isn’t the only guy here who deserves a world class wedgiepic.twitter.com/3y6EwnqxJF

Those who cannot understand the proper meaning behind that paragraph deserve another chance at education.
-
Yup, you deserve a big fucking wedgie lol this paragraph is literally anti factual
-
I must confess I don't see how it is counter factual, maybe it's a limitation on my part. Please help me see where it fails your analysis.
