I just ordered Enlightenment Now. I'll read it then listen to this (and your Ezra Klein interview) and judge for myself just how bright-side minded you are, sir! ;)
-
Purchased it as a pre-order and began reading it yesterday. I'll get through the next few chapters on the train ride home this evening.
-
I feel like people don't appreciate the ways public transportation enhances one's reading life. Happy reading/riding!

I don't think the interviwer liked your downplaying of religion, especially regarding MLK. I just started your book with enjoyment. On Kindle btw.
-
Religion is a grand hoax!
-
I prefer to think of religion as an imagined reality.
-
I prefer to think of religion as an augmented reality (AR), where a fantasy is overlaid or superimposed over factuality, resulting in persistent delusions & cognitive dissonance!
-
I was referring to Harari on the cognitive revolution when man was able to not just experience objective reality but was able to imagine all sorts of realities, religion being a prominent example.

So many strawmen. Please come the American south and hear how blind you sound. See the pollution, the institutional racism, the state violence.
-
You are fighting the straw man. Pinker isn’t saying everything is great and nothing can improve. He’s saying that things are better and he’s got the data to prove it.

Love your work What do you think about 1.The elephant graph? 2.The feeling of 'belonging': recognizable, human-scale society's. Some prefer a poorer '50s midtown USA over a richer 2018 cosmopolitan town. What is 'better'? How do these fit in the everything is better narrative?

The end of religion is the beginning of reason. The dissolution of faith is the solution for enlightenment.
-
You can’t end religion. It is a glitch inherent in our systems.
-
For every malware there is remediation patch. Only matter of time to eradicate it!

I don't have the google-fu, so just insert the closing scene of "Life of Brian" here.
