You don't agree that *actually existing* higher ed is a waste of time & money, or don't agree that *well-functioning* higher ed is a waste of time & money?

The self taught man seldom knows anything accurately, and he does not know a tenth as much as he could have known if he had worked under teachers & besides, he brags, and is the means of fooling other thoughtless people into going and doing as he himself has done-Mark Twain

For 250k it seems the customer wants athletic centers, swimming pools, and safe spaces ;) That’s why they get them.
-
The customer doesn't want those things. No one is thinking "I would go to Harvard if they had a bigger athletic center".
-
Unfortunately, universities (and maybe many people ) tend to see the College Brand as their sports teams. It's the path to getting $$ from alumni. They don't come back in drove to celebrate Graduation day. They come back for football games (here @ Virginia Tech). Sad but true.

Primary and secondary education isn't so great either.
-
Difference being you don’t come out of it with $45k+ in debt. Bachelor’s degrees outside engineering or computer science are a scam. Chemists and biologists with a bachelor’s make same if barely more than a lowly store manager for an investment of 4 years off the workforce+debt
-
True, but society pays greatly for primary and secondary education.

Teach at a less elite university and you might have a more cynical view.
-
You supposedly teach at a university...are you calling your classes worthless?
-
No, Number Six. I'm saying that the Ivies, which get the top of the ability distribution and train a large proportion of future leaders, have more students who are likely to benefit from a liberal arts education.

A college education needn't cost $250k - tuition for community college for two years is less than $8,000 and two years of in-state tuition is $20,000.
-
Plus the opportunity cost of 4 years off the workforce. Only bachelor with a worthwhile return for that is engineering or computer science. Other sciences like chemistry or biology make shit pay, average of 37k a year it’s pitiful.
-
4 years off from working full-time at a dead end job. Go way, Russian troll.

Hard to argue with the data that higher ed sorts, and nothing of it is retained, and outside of STEM has done little more than replace the church's theological dogma of frozen capital with a pseudoscientific dogma of the opposite. I mean you were on the bow wave of demarcation...
-
.. but the momentum increases. The bifurcation in the polity is in no small part due to the distribution of pseudoscience and pseudo rationalism.

Capitalist econocaste tell everyone else this, but send their own kids to Ivy League schools. This assertion of anti-scholarship is intended for the economic underclass only. In the Middle Ages only Nobles/Preists were taught to read & write. Tertiary education should be free.
