This is garbage. Sets a definition of hegemony that the Star Wars Empire wouldn't even meet. Obfuscates the goals of US foreign intervention into something like failed domination by a would-be totalitarian state.

To questions like this I always like to post this plot of growing number of Democracies in 20th cent. Note where the dramatic increases occur: after WWI, WWII and Cold War. Question: what would this graph look like if there was no US intervention to win those conflicts?pic.twitter.com/rDAjUQ4xle

The US foreign policy has provided islamist extremists with foot soldiers and created wrath against the west that motivates muslim immigrants in Europe to commit crime. My own take... no way of proving it and the European establishment is unlikely to do any such research.

The Bretton-Woods conference set up international bodies to aid intnl trade, rebuild war torn countries and promote financial stability. These were supported by a willing US - the hegemon. Worked well till about the 90’s when neo-liberal ideology brought in major breakdowns.
-
The US as the hegemon prompted freer trade, lower tariffs and trade barriers. This benefitted many of the countries that opened their borders to trade and also hugely benefitted the US. Some smaller countries got badly damaged by big multinationals, left worse than before
-
With the massive and growing inequality in the US, it will see its economy slowly wither. And we can say goodbye to the US as the hegemon. China will undoubtedly be the powerhouse economy in the future. US is screwed.

If one defines "hegemony" as the US constructing a liberal (partial) world order in its own image, then, of course, the US was indispensable. It is the only country that could have or would have done this.
