This statement fails when you realize guns are banned in Brazil and we had 60,000 murders last year. Yes, sixty thousand.

In the first two graphs, the order of the countries changes a lot (other than the US) - not much correlation there. /1

When it comes to car fatalities, the trend is that it's going down. That trend existed before 1946 where the graph conveniently starts. /2
-
Finally, homicides and suicides should be looked at separately when comparing states as gun laws often affect them differently. /3

Great article, but problem with data driven approach: mass shootings are far more socially destructive than comparative body count suggests.

Good article, still think we need to factor in the effect increased lethality of violence has on reducing violence overall. How many violent assaults are we willing to tolerate in exchange for one less gun death?

Shows it's impossible to advocate the obvious - ban routine gun ownership. Even the "low" gun death rates higher than other OECD countries

The direct correlation between gun ownership and gun violence takes a bump when you see Switzerland’s place on those lists.

Not really. Once again gun opponents switch back and forth between "gun violence" (including suicide) and "gun homicides". Dishonest. False
