Dear Steven it would be a great satire, if I had made the unqualified statement attributed to me - but my critique was v specific
-
-
-
I was casting specific doubt on economic forecasting - in answer to a question about economic forecasts
-
the "experts" were economic forecasters from organisations with acronyms - e.g. IMF - which had got things wrong in the past
-
as a huge admirer of your work I'd not want you - or anyone else - to inadvertently repeat a canard -

None of the experts listed were referred to by Gove, well over a year ago. "wicked satire" should at least understand what it is satirising
-
Gove was referring to financial predictions made by organisations who had intervened in the Brexit debate. (And got it wrong).
-
You should also note that the aggressive, hectoring, interrupting interviewer did not allow Gove to complete his point.
-
If we may not discriminate between the expertise of financial economists and oncologists, then experts have no place in debates at all.

False analogy given that the suspicion of experts usually relates to both ethical/policy prescription and forecasting ability, but sure.

Having better understanding of relevant information & mechanisms usually makes experts better but they also fall 2 arrogance & echo chamber.
-
Much better if the population of experts includes people w/ differing biases so that genuine review takes place.
-
I think Steven is smart enough to know this but is seeing the power of his class wane and understandably getting concerned.

And it was experts who ruined the health of millions with their nonsense about fats. And cholesterol. Eh?

Flying a plane is quite a lot easier than accurately predicting the future of the economy and political/social events

I can relate to being an ignored expert. It's almost like me making a profit by influencing their purchasing decisions isn't their concern!
