Ordinary people have this picture of academics sitting in rooms discussing which data must be suppressed because it doesn't fit a narrative.
-
-
-
Time and again, it's revealed that this is actually what happens...followed by shock that the ignorant unwashed don't trust their expertise.
-
Bending truth to fit a narrative or to signal virtue should be THE unforgivable sin for someone who calls themself a scientist.
-
Not just narrative. Did an astrobiology internship and mentor said our mixed results could be "massaged". Research is a joke.

I like the style and ideas in this well-written essay, but I think some simpler writing about this would reach and inspire more people.

A whiny aggrieved essay about how the author isn't racist is supposed to convince that James Damore did nothing wrong?
-
How is it whiny or aggrieved? Even if it is, how does that change the message. Only interested in shaming? 5-th memory, I think.
-
Perhaps you missed the grievance list at the beginning. The message is that Damore shouldn't have been fired and he had a point. I disagree.
-
care to explain why as opposed to criticizing the article's tone, then? Also, that was not the larger message of the article, just evidence
-
My dude, the Damore BS went down over a month ago. Why are we still talking about this clown?http://scienceblogs.com/denialism/2017/08/13/damores-pseudoscientific-google-manifesto-is-a-better-evidence-for-sexism-than-it-is-for-intellectual-sex-differences/ …
-
Too much to say, too little space. PM me if you care to continue, but you're sort of reinforcing the point made in the article.
-
The point is disingenuous
-
How so? The idea that people can't discuss something has been proven real by people like James Damore, not that i agree with him 100%

An interesting read with good ideas but one can't help but think a read of "The Sense of Style' and at least one more draft would benefit it
