IOW, in real-world (at least in US), most people aren't debating philosophy. They are illiterate wrt to science, civics, critical thinking.

They don't need to be. The values are part of the cultural furniture. Few debated theology during medieval era but still dominated thinking.

First - I've never met a college student that is for either of those things. Second - we still live in a largely racially segregated society
