When an org invites me to review their lang. policies &suggest improvements in the bk [in draft of new ed.], I read the ENTIRE existing ed.
-
I want to see if the org’s rules are used throughout in existing ed, because org should follow the same rules they’re mandating for others.

Do sth comparable w/Bret Stephens, on passive. Be prepared for surprise, eg. in his 8/24 NYT article, "On Afghanistan, there's no way out".

I disagree. Avoiding the passive shouldn't be a *rule* but it's a good *heuristic*.
-
Mainly because amateur writers tend to write excessively in the passive voice.
-
Sort of like avoiding adverbs. It's good advice until you're ready to replace it with more nuanced advice. :)
