People can learn not to be hurt by words uttered by jerks. People can learn not to be jerks. Freedom of Speech remains intact. We all win.

A disingenuous example. Claims that speech is violence are usually about hate speech, slurs & threats. The content is more directly hostile.

I think the example is supposed to illustrate how the argument can be extended to almost anything. Appeal to convention won't work.

But doing so, in the case of hate speech, means he is now illustrating an entirely different argument, rather than extending it.

As both science denial and hate speech have strong emotional components, but only one is strongly tied to 'speech is violence' disputes.

Again, "strongly tied" just looks like an appeal to convention, which is probably also question begging. /1

If speech=stress=violence works in one domain, why shouldn't it work in another, and thus work to suppress important views/information?

That is not how either claim works in any domain. Hate speech laws look at specific content directly promoting irl outcomes. ..

While climate denial, as denial, is unconscious reactive refusal to listen. Censorship exists due to seperate lobbying. They don't compare

The increasingly popular notion that words alone can justify violence is one of the most dangerous to come forth in decades.

If this standard were acceptable Trump could literally ban any public criticism of him, citing this rule. Ridiculous.
