Her own chart shows # of terrorist attacks in W. Europe at a twenty-year high.

Why isn't 9/11 included in the terrorism graph?
-
Because it doesn't fit Pinker's narrative. Data conflicts? Don't include it.
-
I'm not inclined to bet against SP's broader thesis. It's just a glaring omission.

Read
@nntaleb's destruction of Pinker's thesis. -
I read it and SP's response. Stats beyond my ken. Just know how I would bet.
-
I'm not great at stats - but can understand the central argument
-
Same. Also read BAoON closely & think SP's case is robust across dimensions.

@humanprogress it appears that there is more terrorism now than ever before. I'm I wrong? -
Not in Western Europe. See the second graph:http://humanprogress.org/blog/violence-terror-trending-downward …

How do you get 'trending downward' from the Europe chart? It shows exactly the opposite for the last 12 yrs.

Reminds me of the charts that begin "Since 9/11, blah blah blah". Convenient. Try starting since 9/10.

You're right about homicide, but linked data show terrorism, while lower than 70s and 80s, has been trending up since early 2000s.

not doubting you, but do you have evidence for that? It would make an interesting counter-argument
