@sapinker @Wikisteff The thing is: we *don't know* that it helps everyone and hurts no one. That's why it's being studied.

.@sapinker @Wikisteff and if it's a study, the participants have a right to know and consent. Why do you see that as a problem?

@MarkCC @sapinker @Wikisteff but the "traditional" hospital admin/process wasn't subject to this - we just did it.

@crashfrog @sapinker @wikisteff Maybe it's better than the standard of care. Maybe it's worse. We don't know. So you have to ask permission.

@sapinker @Wikisteff Sounded to me like bioethicists were objecting to lack of consent, not the care experiments themselves.

@sapinker @Wikisteff The "hurts no one" bit is questionable: "[no consent] even if there might be consequences for patient care."

@Wikisteff @sapinker It's challenging, though, because innovation requires experimentation but no one wants to volunteer to be the subject.

@sapinker The bioethicist quoted in this story poses a few questions about why & how data will be collected. That's opposing innovation?

@sapinker imagine how slow tech/econ progress, if required to go thru IRB process each time tweaked code to improve customer experience.
