@sapinker Harris had no business initiating this conversation. Chomsky quite rightly put him in his place.

@NicholasC_79 @sapinker Why? A free exchange of ideas is the basis of our society. Chomsky was hostile from the very beginning.

@sapinker It's like trying to out paint El Greco...you may be very good, but will wind up seriously outclassed

@SrMayo1 @sapinker This had nothing to do with trying to out paint El Greco, this was Chomsky being the bigger jerk -- don't applaud it

@sapinker Chomsky clearly not in the mood for discussion, unnecessarily prickly, but Harris did sound terribly naive on US foreign policy.

@lfernandino @sapinker Somehow Harris seems to think that "thought experiments" can replace an actual command of relevant information.

@sapinker @SamHarrisOrg Chomsky sounds really, really pompous here. I wouldn't have expected that, at least to this degree.

@aeon456 @sapinker @SamHarrisOrg it was the tone that annoyed me. He's used to being treated as omniscient by clueless humanities undergrads

@sapinker Chomsky is an example of "Humanities as an extension of Literary Criticism masquerading as Science" we've begun to move away from.

@fustbariclation except he never says or implied that the USA is saintly. Simply that there are moral differences with, say, the Taliban.
